Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty Q & A
What is lower eyelid blepharoplasty?
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is a type of cosmetic surgery that restores a youthful look to your eyes.
Dr. Yogita Kashyap specializes in oculofacial plastic surgery and has a thorough understanding of the intricate structures around your eyes. Her medical knowledge and eye for aesthetics ensures a natural-looking result.
What does lower eyelid blepharoplasty treat?
Dr. Kashyap recommends lower eyelid blepharoplasty to address a variety of common signs of aging, such as:
- Bags under your eyes
- Drooping lower eyelids
- Crepey skin under your eyes
- Dark circles under your eyes
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty also treats tear troughs or grooves that run from the inner corners of your eyes down to your cheeks.
Who is a good candidate for lower eyelid blepharoplasty?
Because blepharoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure, Dr. Kashyap finds that most healthy adults are great candidates. After a thorough consultation, she will help you decide if lower eyelid blepharoplasty is right for you.
Depending on your needs, she may recommend a non-surgical treatment, such as Botox® or dermal fillers, instead.
If you’re concerned about upper eyelid drooping as well, she may suggest combining your lower eyelid blepharoplasty with an upper eyelid blepharoplasty. You can treat both upper and lower lids in the same procedure.
It’s also possible to address crepey skin and fine lines around the eyes with a chemical peel or laser treatment in combination with eyelid surgery.
What does lower eyelid blepharoplasty surgery involve?
Dr. Yogita Kashyap often performs lower eyelid blepharoplasty right in the office using local anesthesia. You may prefer to have your surgery in the hospital using local anesthesia with gentle sedation.
During the procedure, your surgeon will make a small incision on the inner side of your eyelid and remove or reposition any excess fat to fill the tear trough. She may also remove any excess skin to tighten the under eye area or restore lost volume with a fat graft.
The surgery takes 1-3 hours, depending on your needs. You can go home the same day but will need someone else to drive you. You may experience minor discomfort, swelling, and bruising that should resolve within 1-2 weeks.
You return to our office 7-10 days after surgery for a follow-up visit to make sure you’re healing well.
