LOWER EYELID REJUVENATION
Dark circles under the eyes are a common complaint at any age. The cause for dark circles in youth can be the pigmentation of the skin in the lower eyelids or strong eyelid muscles resulting in a roll under the eyelid.
Dark circles that occur as we get older are a result of weakening facial support, including facial volume, causing the normal fat behind the eye to protrude through the upper and lower eyelid. Another contributing factor is an increase in the distance between the cheek and the lower eyelid, which creates a hollow transition zone.
The loss of facial volume creates dark shadows. Under the eyes, these dark shadows are known as the tear trough.
If the dark circle improves when you smile, it is because you are raising your cheek into a youthful position and shortening the transition zone.
Dr. Yogita Kashyap uses several methods to improve dark under-eye circles and tear troughs. Depending upon your anatomy, preferences, and the extent of the correction you need, Dr. Kashyap may recommend a chemical peel, dermal fillers, Botox® or lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty with or without fat grafting).
